The Collection in Detail

“Oil Squirting Herbie” (Disney ID Number unknown) – This car was used in Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo as well as Herbie Goes Bananas. After starring as Herbie, this little Volkswagen went on to be owned by a rental agency that leased cars out to film production companies. Who knows what other films it may have made some sort of appearance in? It was rescued by “Herbie Historian” Bob Hoag and eventually was restored by a man names Arthur Porter that actually raced the car in SCCA events. It then went on to an automobile museum before being purchased by the seller. The vehicle was then restored by Herbie expert Dan Miller to exactly as it appeared in Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo. The car also "squirts oil" just as it did in the movie onto unsuspecting people's feet and sounds its horn via remote. This car is in excellent, restored condition and features a 1600cc engine with dual Kadron carburetors.  Shown here with Giselle.

Giselle – There were three 1976 Lancia Scorpions used in the making of Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo. Though there seem to be no definitive facts, it is believed by the Lancia community that two of these cars were wrecked and/or are otherwise no longer in existence. It is possible that one, for example, was extremely heavily modified to become a Lancia 037 Rally replica. This car, however, has all the documentation and provenance to prove that it is indeed one of the original Giselle Lancias. This includes the original Disney pink slip, the original license plates (that are included with the sale), and matching powder blue paint that was found under other layers of paint during restoration as well as other important indicators. This car was purchased by the seller and also restored by Herbie expert Dan Miller to exactly as it appeared in the film.

Herbie #3 – This car is one of four used for Herbie in the 1997 made-for-television movie The Love Bug. The vehicle remains in unrestored condition from its filming days and can be seen prominently in the movie. It is essentially a nice, stock 1963 model Volkswagen Beetle. Included with the car is a prop tire from the film which was shredded by the evil Horace’s sabotage. This car was won in a KLOS Radio contest in California by Mike and Marcia Smith before being purchased by Herbie fan and LoveBugFans.com administrator Greg Webber. The car was freshened up and made into a nice, road-worthy vehicle. It later became the first of the seller's Herbie collection; the one that started it all!

Horace #1 – An excellent pairing to Herbie #3 above, this car starred with its “brother” in the 1997 made-for-television movie The Love Bug. One of only two Horaces built for the film, this car is also unrestored and in excellent original condition. The car was heavily modified with custom top, bumpers, hood louvers, interior, etc. It is one of the coolest cars in the collection because of its totally unique appearance. The interior has many switches and custom touches that, for the film, were triggers for some of Horace’s sinister devices. Like Giselle, this car is really an amazing addition to the seller's overall collection even though it is not a Herbie itself.

Junkyard Herbie #15 – One of the “Junkyard Herbies” seen at the beginning of Herbie Fully Loaded, this car is heavily reinforced for a shot in which it can notably be seen falling from a crane onto a Nissan. This is also an unrestored vehicle, just as it was when it rolled off the set. It features the dirty, rusty appearance that all the Junkyard Herbies in the film are seen with. It was acquired by Herbie collector Dave "Kool1" Grimmit before being passed on to the seller.

Demolition Derby Herbie #30 – One of the “Demolition Derby Herbies” in Herbie Fully Loaded. This scene comes about in the film because of Herbie being lost to the film’s villain, Trip Murphy (Matt Dillon) and then sold off to be destroyed in a demolition derby. The car is visibly wrecked and worn, just as it is in the film. This car was also temporarily owned by collector Dave "Kool1" Grimmit before it was purchased by Herbie expert Tory Alonzo. Mr. Alonzo went through the car and made it worthy for being driven on the street, though it is essentially unrestored and in original condition. The car’s unique damage and red spray painted “targets” make it easy to distinguish from the other Demolition Derby Herbies in the film.

NASCAR Herbie #10 – Probably the favorite car from Herbie Fully Loaded is the “NASCAR Herbie.” This particular car is featured prominently during the climatic NASCAR race in the film and is an extremely heavily modified Volkswagen. This car is literally built to racing specifications, complete with roll cage, disc brakes, and high performance racing engine. It truly is a complex piece of machinery. After filming wrapped, the car was acquired by a man who worked prominently on the crew of Herbie Fully Loaded before a deal was struck for the car by the seller. It sits just as it was during filming, where it was captured racing on real NASCAR tracks.
