What's the story behind this
incredible collection?
A private automobile collector in
Texas appreciates rare vehicles, especially screen-used ones.
When browsing Ebay one day, a
certain car caught his eye. It was a Volkswagen Beetle that was an
original, screen-used Herbie the Love Bug from the Disney franchise of
films. It had to be his! He bought the little car, but never
could have guessed that it would be the first of seven such vehicles
that would find their way into his garage.
That's just what happened,
though. Over the course of many years, one by one these cars came
up for sale. Each time, Mr. Kaufmann couldn't resist adding
another piece to what was on track to becoming the biggest collection of
Herbie vehicles in the world. It now holds that title, by a long
shot.
What was so tempting each time is that no two of these cars were alike. There
are no duplicates in this collection. They are each unique cars,
either from different films or different versions of Herbie from the
same film. There are also other star cars from the Herbie
films. Giselle, the Lancia from Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo,
and Horace from the 1997 made-for-television movie make this collection
even more well-rounded.
Each of these seven vehicles is
an actual, authentic, screen-used, Disney-built car. None are
replicas or are lacking in prestige. This collection represents a
timeline of Herbie’s history, spanning nearly three decades of
filmmaking. Each car has a clean title in hand and comes with
documentation, such as Disney pink slips, to prove the car's provenance.
